About Us: Successes & Strides

Maine's Higher Education Alcohol Prevention Partnership uses a web of evidence-based strategies to tackle the issue at many different levels: individual, group, campus, community, state, and national.

Here are some of our recent successes and strides:

  • Increasing cross-campus networking and collaboration around high-risk drinking and related issues
  • Furthering the development of campus-community coalitions and the use of evidence-based prevention strategies
  • Increasing higher education’s inclusion in state-level prevention field and strategic planning
  • Developing a web site to increase awareness and knowledge around college high-risk drinking and related issues
  • Conducting a training for over four hundred resident assistants on how to build a lower-risk alcohol environment in the residence halls
  • Partnering with the Muskie School of Public Service to investigate the impact of mental health and substance abuse on student retention
  • Being highlighted at national conferences as a leader in the area of statewide initiatives addressing campus substance abuse
